What to Expect at Your Child's First Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Class
Booking your child's first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class is an exciting step, but it's completely normal to have a few questions. At Gracie Barra Hunter Valley, we want both parents and children to feel comfortable from the moment they arrive.
Here's exactly what you can expect.
A Warm Welcome
From the moment you walk through our doors, you'll be greeted by our friendly team and instructors. We know trying something new can feel a little overwhelming, so we'll take the time to introduce ourselves, answer any questions and help your child settle in before class begins.
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early so we can fit your child with a Gracie Barra loan uniform and show you around the academy.
We'll Provide Everything They Need
There's no need to purchase anything for the trial class.
We'll provide:
- A clean Gracie Barra uniform to wear during class.
- A belt to complete the uniform.
- Friendly instructors to guide your child every step of the way.
All your child needs to bring is:
- A drink bottle.
- Comfortable clothes to wear under the uniform if preferred.
- A positive attitude and a smile!
- Shoes on Feet - Crocks, flip flops etc
A Safe and Fun Environment
Safety is always our highest priority.
Our classes are structured to suit each age group and are taught by Gracie Barra Certified Instructors. Every activity is carefully supervised, and children learn at their own pace in a supportive and encouraging environment.
No previous experience is needed.
What Happens During Class?
Every class follows a structured format that helps children learn while having fun.
Your child can expect:
- A fun warm-up to get moving.
- Simple Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques.
- Partner drills with other children of a similar size and experience.
- Games that improve coordination, balance and confidence.
- Plenty of encouragement from our instructors.
There is no punching or kicking in our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes. Instead, children learn how to control movement, solve problems and develop confidence through technique.
Can Parents Watch?
Absolutely!
Parents are welcome to stay and watch the entire class. It's a great opportunity to see how our instructors teach and how children learn in a positive, respectful environment.
Many parents tell us they're surprised by how quickly their child becomes engaged and starts smiling.
More Than Just Martial Arts
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is about much more than learning self-defence.
Our goal is to help children develop:
- Confidence
- Respect
- Discipline
- Resilience
- Focus
- Teamwork
These are skills that benefit children not only on the mats, but at school, at home and throughout life.
After the Class
Once the class finishes, one of our team members will answer any questions you may have about memberships, class schedules and uniforms.
There's absolutely no pressure—we simply want to help you decide if Gracie Barra Hunter Valley is the right fit for your family.
